Ahri Grayson, September Athlete of the Month, Volleyball
As a junior for the La Mirada Matadores, Ahri Grayson has emerged as a standout on the volleyball court, playing the outside position. After three years of playing the sport, she’s earned recognition as this month’s Athlete of the Month thanks to her competitive spirit, consistent improvement, and leadership.
What she loves most about volleyball is “how competitive it is”. That drive shows in every match, where she takes on the outside position with intensity, attacking the ball and setting the tone for her team. Head Coach Kayla Long emphasized, “Ahri exemplifies the student-athlete any coach would want for their program. She leads by example by expressing her passion for the sport, displaying determination and a strong work ethic and constantly inspiring teammates with both skill and sportsmanship. She is never afraid to ask questions or ask for clarity to better understand how she can contribute to the team. She represents the true spirit of our school.”
One of Grayson’s most memorable moments came when her club team advanced to Junior Nationals—a milestone that reinforced her love for high-level competition and teamwork.
She names Madison Skipper as her favorite athlete. She admires Skipper’s competitive fire, her efforts in podcasts and interviews, and the way she encourages younger girls—qualities Grayson strives to bring to her own game.
When she’s not on the volleyball court, Grayson enjoys watching football, and she also competes in track at La Mirada, adding yet another dimension to her athletic profile.
Looking ahead, she hopes to play volleyball at the collegiate level—ideally at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa—continuing to combine her competitiveness, athleticism, and team-first mindset.
