La Mirada hosted the first Norwalk-La Mirada Unified “District Derby” for an E-Sports event on Wednesday, March 20 in the La Mirada Gym. According to Gameplan, “Esports, short for electronic sports, is a specialized subset of gaming that centers around organized, competitive gameplay.” The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) has selected the Network of Academic and Scholastic Esports Federations (NASEF) as the Official Esports Provider of the CIF Esports Initiative. Deacon Fileto, the ASB Boys Athletic Representative helped set up for the event and created the script for the derby. “It was cool to see something new and to host to something that hasn’t been done in our district before,” explained Fileto.
