May 21st is the day when the class of 2025 seniors sign to their colleges. The places where they are to spend their next few years of schooling and live up to the potential within every single one of them. Despite there being 158 seniors taking part in the event, those who chose not to participate are also focused on pursuing higher education. While the matador community is sad about the departure of this year’s seniors, they’re very proud of their accomplishments. They’ve all achieved great things throughout their four years at La Mirada High.
The seniors signed to private universities, Cal states, UC schools, community colleges, armed forces and more. Senior Simran Sahota signed to UC San Diego. “I chose UCSD because of its emphasis on research. UCSD is ranked #1 in research and this will be very favorable for my major, Cellular and Molecular Science,” shared Simran on why she chose her UC. She also explained how she pursued this accomplishment. “I worked towards my college by engaging in extracurricular activities and maintaining my grades. The things I did that helped me get in were being organized and motivated!”
Only a few La Mirada High School seniors signed to private universities, which is a notable achievement, not only for the students but for the school. Jimmy Arellano who signed to USC is one of the many hardworking seniors who are bound for greatness! Like many other seniors, his excitement was evident as he remained happy given the circumstances of immense heat that followed the event. He explained how he worked very hard throughout high school while still being able to “maintain an average gpa of 4.4”. It’s no surprise that his hard work paid off, he also mentioned how he gained insight about the school from a summer institute that “focused on the student’s abilities to deliver presentations” about any given specific subjects. While he was very involved through volunteering and extracurriculars, he was still able to have some time to himself and to hangout with his friends. Despite his decision to attend USC in the fall, he stated that USC will help him make connections that could help him for his future career of political science, not to mention the ”best deal in financial aid” that the school offers.
