Valentine’s Day is Feb. 14. It is a day when people celebrate love of many kinds, including romantic, friendship, and family. This day can be celebrated in many different ways by all people.
People have many different opinions on how Valentine’s Day should be celebrated. Elliott Haun, shared, “I don’t think you can celebrate Valentine’s Day if you’re not in a relationship.” He added, “I would say Valentine’s Day is about spending time and appreciating your significant other.” While another student, Marleen Torres disagreed, she explained, “I like celebrating Valentine’s Day with my friends.” She continued, “I think Valentine’s Day is a day to show your love and how much you love the people around you.” No matter your thoughts on how to celebrate Valentine’s, it is a day to show love.
Students also shared what they thought about handmade gifts versus gifts you can buy. According to CBS News, the average cost in the United States for a dozen roses this Valentine’s Day, is $90.50. The steep price may be enough to deter even the most romantic gesture. Sophomore Elliot Haun stated, “I feel like handmade gifts have more sentiment but a bought gift can also be good if it’s something you know they really like.” Natalia Tamayo agreed with his sentiment stating, “I feel like handmade gifts are cute, but I also think store-bought gifts can have meaning too.”
Lastly, students share what they think the meaning of Valentine Day is. Issac Haile, shared, “[The meaning of Valentine’s Day] to be with someone you like or love.” Marleen Torres added, “I think Valentine’s Day is a day to show your love and how much you love the people around you.” This shows students’ thoughts on Valentine’s Day and why people choose to celebrate.
