Another Club Rush happened this Wednesday for the upcoming school year. With it, many Senior club members have decided to further their activities and members even more than last year. Fashion Club President and Senior Emily Velasco remarked that her plan for the school year is to have members “genuinely learn” about fashion and to “appreciate different styles.”
To get new members from the new freshman or students not in the club yet, she intends to get them to join with the invitation to “share their own cultures and styles.” However, Fashion Club isn’t the only club ramping things up for this year. Are N Be Club similarly is trying to have a better year than last year as the founding members will be leaving at the end of the school year Are N Be Club plans to go “ all out” according to Club President Ricky Tedtaotao, as well the fact that any students interested in music are welcome to join.
With the upcoming Trunk or Treat, students and club members can expect more “activities aimed more towards kids”, making the event more approachable for families as a whole. Trunk or Treat is on October
30th. Students joining clubs shared that their reasoning for joining, “my friend asked me,” as Senior Noah Samusick explained when he joined the Vinyl Club. Other students had more in-depth reasoning, student Miranda Otero stated that she joined the Are N Be club because she, “loves the R&B genre of music and I
would like to interact with people and that the club advertised the artists I listened to and the activities sounded fun.”
The collaboration with club members both old and new, along with teacher supervision are key to running clubs. One teacher Mr Suarez, who is responsible for Photo Club and Record Club says he helps these clubs
because he, “wants to give students an opportunity for students outside of class to explore their interests and that he thinks they are important because they a good way of making education more personalized and individualized so students can focus on their interests and to meet other students with similar interests.”
La Mirada has a promising school year ahead of it with the influx of new cub members and exciting activities planned.
