September 26 was AP Scholar Night at La Mirada High School. The event marks the day where several AP scholars who have earned a 5 on their tests are awarded for their hard work and dedication to the advanced placement classes. Those who have passed all of their classes, earning a 3 or better are also celebrated for their achievements. Students were sent invitations for the event and expected to bring their family to celebrate. Advanced Placement (AP) gives students the chance to tackle college-level work while they’re still in high school and earn college credit and placement.
Several AP teachers attend to honor the student achievements, including Mr. Jones who teaches AP Human Geography. Armando Costa teaches AP European History and U.S History is one of the few teachers on campus that is a part of the event and explained, “It’s nice to honor the accomplishments for the kids, they’ve worked for it.” Like other AP teachers, he recognizes all the time that these students have put into the class. Rebekah Pittle, a junior, is getting an award for her passing three AP classes she took last year. She commented, “Passing those classes makes me feel proud because I felt I was not going to pass.” That feeling seems to be common for many Advanced placement students all over the world who too felt that all the time they put into the class wouldn’t pay off. The AP Scholar Night is an important event to recognize students for their effort passing the AP tests.
