The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District held a Grand Opening Ceremony for the Measure G Bond Project for the La Mirada High School Baseball, Softball and Practice Fields Project that includes a turfed baseball field, a practice infield, a turfed varsity softball field, a turfed junior varsity softball field, asphalt basketball courts, a practice football and soccer field and tennis courts. All of the facilities include storage, team room buildings, concessions and lighting.
The projects were completed with funds from the Measure G Bond that was passed in La Mirada and Norwalk in 2014 that authorized $375 million towards upgrading buildings and facilities in the district as well as technology for students and teachers. This was the third project completed at La Mirada High School, after the gymnasium and the football stadium.
Principal Ben Webster kicked off the Grand Opening, speaking at the Baseball Field and thanking the district, the school, coaches and community for the patience in the completion of the project. Interim Superintendent Estuardo Santillan, Assemblywoman Bianca Pecheco and School Board Representative Narcis Brasov also commented about the project and the completion. Head Baseball Coach Jimmy Zurn and Head Softball Coach Brent Tuttle were also in attendance and cut the prospective ribbons on the new fields.
