For the first time since 2019, the sound of starting pistols, cheering crowds, and spikes on the track return to La Mirada High School. On March 19th, La Mirada High School hosted their first home track meet against Norwalk and John Glenn. As students, parents and alumni gathered in the newly renovated stadium cheering on athletes. An outstanding 85 PRs (personal best) from La Mirada across various events.
For the past six years track has had to practice at Benton Middle School, making practice inconvenient and really limiting their ability to truly prepare on their own turf.. As Jaden Markland, who is a senior, commented “It was nice to not have to worry about getting on a bus and going to Benton every day, instead we finally have our own stadium”. Now with a fully functional stadium on campus, the Matadores finally have a place to call home.
La Mirada’s next home meet is set for March 26th, where they will face off against Bellflower. The meet will also serve as Senior Night at 2:30pm, honoring the class of 2025 for their dedication and perseverance. La Mirada Matadores continue to work hard in practice and preparation as the team will continue to build on their strong performance and continue the momentum for the rest of their season.
