Junior pitcher Alison Ortega has been a big reason for La Mirada’s success this season. Wearing number 44, she’s taken control in the circle all month, putting together a 14–1 record with a 0.84 ERA and giving the Matadores a chance to win every time she pitches.
Ortega has been playing softball for seven years, and it shows in the way she competes. She brings confidence, composure, and a strong presence on the mound, but what stands out just as much is how she values her team. Head Coach Brent Tuttle pointed to that balance, noting the team aspect and how she competes within a group setting.
One moment that stands out for Ortega came during her sophomore year when she started against Fullerton with Jennie Finch in attendance. Being able to pitch in front of someone she’s always looked up to made it a memorable experience. Finch remains her favorite athlete and a big influence on her game.
Outside of softball, Ortega enjoys watching football with her family. Looking ahead, she’s already committed to Harvard University, where she’ll continue her softball career.

With the way she’s performed this season and the consistency she brings to the circle, Alison Ortega is a well-deserved choice for La Mirada High School’s March Athlete of the Month.
