On August 26, La Mirada played the John Glenn Eagles. Maintaining a strong mindset, La Mirada brought home another victory. Their record after August 26 is 2-3. Varsity player Abigail Herrera commented, “I think we realized our mindset matters over our talent.”
Through the season players have been working to keep a positive mindset. “We can remember how good it feels to win and try our best,” explained Sarah Torres. With an onslaught of League games coming up on the schedule, Varsity players acknowledged the importance of working together and winning games. “We should stay focused, realize losses come with lessons learned, and be better for future games, and move forward, not backwards,” added Herrera.
Many of the players have a motivational warm up to get them ready for their games, consisting of listening to their favorite, inspirational music and praying for themselves, and the team. “I pray the night before and during the game and I also listen to music,” Torres stated. “I mentally tell myself affirmations, and listen to Christian worship music, and pray for myself and my team,” Herrera included.
The Varsity team played Canyon, La Habra and Anaheim getting shutout but the goals remain for wins against the upcoming teams. The Girls Varsity Flag Football team plays at Schurr High School on Thursday, September 11 at 6:15pm.
