This month’s Athlete of the Month for Girls Water Polo is Mayma Alcantar Barcelo, a senior and water polo standout for the La Mirada Matadores. Wearing #3 and playing both Point and Set Guard, Alcantar Barcelo has been a key contributor to the team throughout her three years in the program.
She says her favorite part of water polo is the community, and that connection shines both in and out of the pool. One of her most memorable moments came when she scored her first goal, a milestone she’ll always remember. Alongside water polo, Alcantar Barcelo also competes in swimming, bringing strong aquatic skills and endurance to both sports.
When she’s not in the pool, Alcantar Barcelo enjoys watching boxing, and she’s excited about continuing her athletic journey in college—she just hasn’t chosen where yet.
