This month, we’re proud to recognize junior captain Soren Earle as one of La Mirada’s Athletes of the Month for October. A standout leader both in and out of the pool, Soren has been a driving force behind the boys water polo team’s success this season.
Head Water Polo Coach Carol Hernandez shared, “Soren is a great player and captain. His love for water polo has him always in the game from start to finish, never giving up and enjoying every moment of it. Having Soren be a part of the team this season has been wonderful due to his strong character. He’s always pushing his team forward, keeping them motivated, and bringing everyone together through his compassion for the sport and his teammates.”
Soren’s impact is clear on both ends of the pool—over 60 steals defensively and more than 50 goals on offense this season. His hard work and determination set the tone for his teammates, and his leadership helps build a positive, competitive team culture.
When asked what he enjoys most about the sport, Soren commented, “I like the mix of tactics and taking it easy along with the intensity of water polo.”
His most memorable moment so far? “Winning our last CIF game on Thursday,” he said with a smile.
Outside the pool, Soren enjoys watching football and is also a member of the swim team. Looking ahead, he hopes to continue his athletic journey in college—“Hopefully Biola,” he says, “we’ll see what happens.”
The Boys Water Polo team ended their season third in league with a record of 11-13.

I neglected to tell Mrs. Zurn when I sent this game photo, but it was graciously donated to us by Jim McCormack, who is a retired sports photographer for the OC Register. Shout-out to Jim for this great shot!
