The Lady Matadores are proud to recognize 10th-grader Natalia Tamayo as November’s Athlete of the Month for girls basketball. Wearing #5 and playing shooting guard, Tamayo has been a steady and inspiring presence on the court this season.
Head Coach Shay Moten praises Natalia’s mindset and character both on and off the hardwood:
“Natalia is an athlete that continues to work hard and get 1% better every day. She is coachable, punctual, early and on time, and has great communication skills. She is an all-around athlete and on top of her studies. Way to represent LM and the Lady Matadores program in excellence!”
Tamayo has been playing basketball since she was a kid, growing her love for the game through years of practice and competition. Her favorite part of basketball is simple and special: playing with her twin sister — a bond that makes every game meaningful.
When asked about being named Athlete of the Month, Tamayo shared how her growth has been intentional: “I asked my coach about being a better player.” That drive to learn and improve has clearly paid off, earning her this recognition and respect from teammates and coaches alike.
Off the court, Tamayo enjoys watching basketball, joking that it’s the only sport she truly understands the

game — proof that her passion for the game goes beyond playing.
