La Mirada High School proudly recognizes Troy Montero as January’s Athlete of the Month.
A senior competing at 120 lbs, Troy is ranked Top 10 in the State of California, a League Champion, CIF Runner-Up, and finished 2nd at the Tournament of Champions and 5 Counties. He competed at CIF Masters and qualified for the state championships—an elite accomplishment in California wrestling.
Troy has been wrestling for 17 years and credits the friendships he’s built as his favorite part of the sport. His most memorable moment came after placing at the Reno Tournament, when he shared a hug with his dad—an experience he’ll never forget.
He looks up to Jesse Mendez for his mentality and competitive mindset, and he’ll continue his career next year at Vanguard University, where he has committed to wrestle. Congratulations, Troy, on an outstanding senior season and a well-earned honor.
