History was made this school year. California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section added Girls Flag Football as a sanctioned sport in February of 2023. The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District included Flag Football as an option for athletes for the 2023-2024 school year and teachers Mrs. Debra Moreno and Mr. Dave Rush committed as the coaches. The Varsity Flag Football team has had a rocky start to the season with six losses but had close scores versus Anaheim, Gahr and Norwalk. Junior Jael Arreguin commented, “It’s really cool to be a part of making history at the school. Playing Flag Football has been really fun but it’s the first year so we’re still learning.” The team is looking for the first win for the school and that could happen at the next game versus Warren on Monday, October 9 at Benton Middle School.
